Val's Zine Project Progress 2

I know it doesn't seem like much, but so far I have mostly the backgrounds for each section done as seen in the fourth picture. It's a mixture of bronze and black ink, as well as shaving cream and gauche. I wanted to create a rusty, old effect on the paper. I did it by layering the different materials and diffusing the colors with the shaving cream. It is a very interesting and somewhat tedious process but I am happy with the result. I have three of those and I will use this texture for different components of each section. I have one section of my zine done, which is the one inspired by my journey with Buddhism and my aunt, who I consider my mentor. As you can see I layered two pages, half of it represents my aunt and half the buddha himself. I have also taken some pictures I plan on printing for the section on love and relationships. I have something very special planned for the picture of the house, but I would rather reveal my intentions with it when I finish that section. I hope you like it, Seth!

  1. From Seth-- I think all of the pages are powerful in their own way. The only frame that stands out is the outdoor scene. I'm presuming that image is more didactic to show the viewer about a specific place of importance? Great compositions with the photography! Will your other pages get integrated in somehow? The pages from last week? Be sure to invest the full 8-9 hours per week in this. Looking forward to your next two posts.

  2. Keely-I really like the very last one. That design is so cool with the contrasting colors and asymmetry!
