Maya - Final Project Proposal

For my final design project, I want to make a series of pieces that depict the “colors of my mind.”  In the past few years, particularly throughout college, color has become a very big part of my identity and a way I like to express myself. I’m very drawn to bright colors and I want to make a series of pieces that give an insight into the way that I see colors and how they make me feel. Throughout college I’ve also struggled with relating to other people and finding people that I connect with, so I’d like to depict that in this series as well.
I plan to use color theory and the concepts we learned about balance and unity. I want to use a variety of mediums, but I plan to make these pieces by hand. I really enjoyed the assignment where we used the 4 acrylic paints and made our own colors, so I’d like to create my own colors using the acrylic paint for one of these pieces. I’d also like to use gouache for one of the pieces.
I’d like the pieces to be a combination of abstract and representational imagery. The abstract pieces will show certain emotions through color and form. The representational pieces will use color accentuate certain things or emotions. I’d like to explore light and form and get more comfortable creating hand-made pieces. I’m not sure how many pieces I will make or the exact form of them yet, but I have a lot of ideas circulating. One of my goals for this project is to revisit the techniques from this class that I really enjoyed but didn’t get as much time working with.

  1. Anastasia- I love this idea because it is very different from anything else you have done. I think it will end up being great because you tend to have awesome color schemes in all of the projects we have done so far. I also like that you want to try to explore and work with things you enjoyed but didn't get to work with it much in class.

  4. Oooo this is nice. I like how you always tie in aspects of yourself. It roots your ideas in a way that they are really able to flourish and that you aren't bored of doing something you're not interested in. Can't wait to see your progress. - Carli
