Keely's final project check in #1

I ended up deciding to change my original idea because it was not turning out the way I had imagined it. I now want to do another zine where it takes famous places in the past and merges them with the present to see how society is changing. In this piece, there is Times Square from the 80's on the left which fades into present day Times Square. I also decided to add a faded Twin Towers building burning in the background to symbolize a dramatic event that has occurred near this location throughout the time period.

  1. From Seth-- a few suggestions: could you make the transitions and fades throughout the piece and not just in one section? Artfully letting imagery emerge or fade away using your eraser tool and playing with layer positioning. One interesting trick with this is to make a copy of one or both images and change the value and color dramatically (even with filters like invert, etc). Place those layers below the others. When you erase, you can get some interesting effects. I'll post a video if you want about this. Just let me know. Another suggestion, do you want the scale of the people to be different or the same from time period to time period? If it's different, I'd suggest making the difference even more extreme. If you do this it will feel more intentional. Last suggestion, try using the quick select tool to section-off small parts (like a sign for example) then use Image- Adjustments to play with value, saturation, etc. This would be just like the yellow sign in your earlier piece. Make sure you're dedicating the 8-9 hours per week. Looking forward to seeing the progression.
