For my final project, I want to focus on creating art work that deals with identity and mental illness. I chose this concept because stigma about mental illness can have an effect on the way individuals view themselves. Sophomore year, I took Painting 1 and one of my paintings was a representation of a woman masking her depression around others. I really enjoyed making that piece because it was relatable to the culture we live in today.
I want to create at least 2 paintings about mental illness and identity. I will be incorporating several concepts that we learned in class (symmetry, color schemes, focal point, continuation etc.). I have not made the decision in regards to the paint I will be using yet. I have not worked with gouache previously, so I think it will be interesting to work with something new.
Here is the painting I did sophomore year.

From Morgan Clouser- I really appreciate that you take difficult, meaningful topics and express them into your art. I am excited to see how you demonstrate mental illness. I agree with you that you should experiment with your paint options, because what better time to try them out than now?
ReplyDeleteFrom Maya - the painting you did sophomore year is absolutely stunning. I'm really excited to see how your painting has evolved in the last two years on this subject. I'm sure this project will be beautiful and meaningful
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be such a meaningful thing. Recently I've found out more things about myself, that I never knew–honestly this being stuck in the house thing has had such a large affect on me–and I'm looking forward to this! Also, your Sophomore painting is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteFrom SEth-- Strong idea for your final! You should begin right away.
ReplyDeleteKeely-This sounds super interesting and I can't wait to see the final project!
