Val's Check in 1: Zine Project

Hello, this is what I have so far, which I realize isn't much. I changed by idea for the project this morning, so this is all I have so far. My inspiration came from a challege I faced as I was writing a cover letter for an internship at the New York Times. I wanted to allude to the company's philosophy in it, so I did some research about them. Their website says that the NY Times strives to find truth and inspire society. That made me ask myself what is my truth, and where do I look for it. I couldn't think of an answer to that question, so I wrote it down in a paper and pasted it on top of my desk so I would see it every time I worked there. This zine is me trying to make sense of that question and find an answer, although my final conclusion is that I am still figuring it out. The drawing that you see in the pictures above are the covers for my book. It will begin by asking myself the question and it will end with my "answer." The book itself will contain all the things in my life that inspire me, that make me feel most like myself and change me.

  1. From Seth-- Very original premise that holds a great deal of promise. I like the idea of letting the process of making the zine be the experience for arriving at an answer. I'm curious to see how you integrate color and use the negative space.
